The Path That Brought Me Here

Melissa Hughey, BAS, E-RYT 500, YACEP
Founder of Lemon Balm Yoga + Wellness
Yoga Educator · Reiki Master · Sound Healing Practitioner

My path to this work began long before I ever taught my first yoga class. I grew up with exposure to Eastern philosophies and ways of understanding the connection between mind, body, and spirit. Those ideas became an early part of how I understood the world, even before I had language for where they might eventually lead me.

Yoga became a more intentional part of that path more than a decade ago. What began through movement gradually expanded into mindfulness, meditation, sound, energy work, and a deeper curiosity about the nervous system and the ways our experiences live within the body.

Life became a teacher, too. Caregiving, grief, loss, profound change, and the experience of beginning again reshaped my understanding of healing in ways that training alone never could.

That curiosity eventually led me to social work and clinical education, where I continue to deepen my understanding of human behavior, trauma, resilience, and the relationship between mind and body.

Today, Lemon Balm reflects all of those threads—ancient wisdom and contemporary understanding, lived experience and continued education, movement and stillness, science and the less tangible parts of being human.

My work is shaped by years of study, teaching, lived experience, and continued education across movement, mindfulness, energy work, sound, and clinical social work.
